DoD SkillBridge at Loki Labs

DOD SkillBridge at Loki Labs

Loki Labs is committed to promoting pathways to careers in cybersecurity for transitioning service members by training and equipping Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Guardians with the requisite skills for success in the civilian workforce. As a small, service-disabled, veteran-owned cybersecurity firm, we are honored to give back to those who serve. Many of our employees are veterans who want to continue the mission even after hanging up the uniform; we consider fostering rewarding internship experiences for service members to be a part of that mission.

What is SkillBridge

The DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. DOD SkillBridge connects transitioning service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences.

Requirements

The SkillBridge program is for U.S. service members on active duty. Internships are considered to be permissive duty and may not exceed 180 days in duration. You are eligible to participate in SkillBridge if you:

  • Have 180 days of service or fewer remaining prior to your date of discharge and you have at least 180 continuous days of active service.

  • Obtain approval from your unit commander.

  • Agree that participation in SkillBridge can be terminated at any time by the service if mission requirements dictate.

Prospective interns should establish contact with us within six months of, but no later than 90 days before, their desired start date to allow adequate time for coordination between the service member, the service member’s command or unit, and our SkillBridge Team.

Although technical experience in cybersecurity and adjacent fields is preferred, we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and disciplines. The biggest key to your success as an intern is your willingness to learn.

You can learn more about general SkillBridge participation requirements here. Please be advised that service-specific policies may also apply in addition to broader DoD guidance.

What Can You Expect as a SkillBridge Intern?

Our program is designed to provide transitioning service members with hands-on technical skills and exposure to offensive and defensive disciplines to better prepare them for careers in cybersecurity. Our interns can expect to gain familiarity in one or more of the following areas and can focus on a track that best aligns with their interests:

  • Penetration testing and vulnerability assessments

  • Security operations center (SOC) activities and incident response

  • Cloud infrastructure engineering

  • Program management and client engagement

We prefer to work with service members who will be with us for at least 120 days, but exceptions for shorter internship periods can be made on a case-by-case basis. Our internships are flexible and provide consideration towards transition obligations (e.g., VA appointments, career preparation, leave, etc.), as well as time for self-study in pursuit of professional certifications. Although internships are remote, on-site opportunities may arise depending on our clients’ needs.
